MillHouse was one of the 148 houses built for workers at the Eno River Mill in Hillsborough, NC. At some point it was relocated to its current site in West Hillsborough, along with many of the other original millhouses. Our work included a complete rethinking of the interior and exterior, with the goal of keeping the original form and aesthetic, including the side dormer which was added at an unknown time.

The result is a split plan with two bedrooms and a bathroom on one side, and an open living, dining, kitchen which connects the front porch to the new deck in the rear. Thoughtful window placements and skylights fill the living spaces with natural light.

A retractable ladder allows access to the loft above the kitchen, where a home office and reading nook add valuable space to the small home.

Thoughtful landscaping helps nestle the house into the neighborhood.
